    Let’s face it, we all know why no one will be buying from Mary’s business if that is the kind of introduction she is posting online.

    Mary did not follow the first rule of online interaction. She didn’t try and connect with her audience. Deep down, she knows that there are real people behind each of those profiles. She also knows that she hates aggressive salespeople ramming products down her throat.

    So why was Mary so quick to do this to everyone else?

    Because Mary did not read this awesome article on how to write a great introduction post in a Facebook group. Don’t be like Mary.

    Why Introduce Yourself?

    We don’t need to beat around the bush, you join most Facebook groups to gain attention, be remembered as an expert and ultimately to get leads.

    But you won’t be able to do any of that unless you introduce yourself.

    How To Write An Effective Intro Post

    So how do you write this all important intro post?

    Firstly, you want to attract attention. You want people to stop their scroll and listen to exactly what you have to say. Now, that in itself can be a little nerve-wracking if you are the introverted type. But it is something that you need to do to get you and your business noticed. 

    You want to create an energy that shows you are an expert in your field, but that you are still a real and approachable person. 

    What To Include

    These are the components that make a compelling intro:

    1: A Greeting -Every introduction needs a greeting. And you can use this greeting as part of your impact. Show your personality by saying more than just Hi. You could use anything (as long as it isn’t offensive) like Hiya, What’s Up, Yo (if you are 90s inclined), Hey, Hi Lovelies… whatever takes your fancy!

    2: Your Name and Business -This is a key part, people can’t contact you or your business if they don’t know who you are. Even if your profession is considered a ‘boring’ one, make your description interesting and memorable. It should say who you are, what you do, who you help and what the benefits are for your ideal client. You can also include some fun facts about yourself if the vibe of the group is receptive to this.

    3: Where They Can Find You -This should not be the main focus on your introduction, but you should let people know where to find you if they want to connect further. So you should include a link to your website (if the group allows you to post it).

    4: Offer To Help -Remember that many people in the group will be meeting you for the first time. They might not know how you can help unless you tell them. So, include an offer of help that centres around your specialisation, eg. Feel free to contact me with any questions about online networking. 

    5: End With Thanks - Don’t forget to sign off with thanks and excitement. Tell everyone you are excited to get to know them better. You can also mention why you joined the group and what you hope to get out of it. 

    6: Add A Photo -Yes you have your profile pic, but that can be teeny tiny, especially if people are browsing on their phone. Adding a photo to your post allows people to connect with you immediately. It doesn’t have to be a professional headshot, it can be a candid fun snap that shows your personality. 

    So that is how it is done. That is how you avoid being like Mary and introduce yourself in a meaningful, memorable way. Next time you are introducing yourself in a Facebook group, follow these pointers to start making the right connections from the start.
