    Interview With The Brand Ambassador

If you've been paying attention then you'll know that Brand Ambassadors are huge right now. Both small and large businesses are using Brand Ambassadors as a new way to advertise their products in use. If you want to be a Brand Ambassador or you think your business could use one, then you'll find this interview with New Zealand based Brand Ambassador, Siddy Pain full of helpful tips.

    What is a Brand Ambassador?

A brand ambassador is someone who is the face of your brand. Just like a spokesperson, except it's more online and social media focussed.

    How does it all work?

There's lots of different ways that it can work depending on what kind of products the business sells. For instance, a company that sells cookware might ask a celebrity chef to use their pans in their cooking. A brand ambassador shows your products in use and talks positively about the company.

How did you get started as a Brand Ambassador?

For a long time I actually didn't realize I was doing it! I did modeling, but in some ways that's very different to brand representation because usually your involvement in what you're wearing stops at the photos.

I ended up doing a photoshoot for Gorgeous Jewellery four years ago now and that eventually lead to me modeling for the sister brand Dark Angel Jewellery. Whenever I bought jewellery from Dark Angel Jewellery, I would take a picture of myself wearing it and send it to Michelle to use on her Facebook page as a customer pic. I'd also talk about it to anyone who would listen. So it kind of just evolved from that.

How do you choose which brands to work with?

I am quite picky about what I will represent because I need to stay real. I don't ever want to sales pitch to my followers, I just want to tell them about awesome brands I like and where to buy from especially stuff they wouldn't usually see in chain stores because it's not cutesy or in the box. For that reason I only represent things that I genuinely like or want to try but more importantly, only things I think my followers will like.

What do you like about being a Brand Ambassador?

I like taking photos. I've always enjoyed doing photoshoots, but when it's just me shooting for myself I have so much control over the creative aspect of it rather than it being the vision of the photographer. All the photos are styled, photographed and edited by me. It also gives me a chance to dress up and do really kooky things I wouldn't usually do in real life and I get to meet people I probably wouldn't have met otherwise.

Do you have any tips for businesses looking for Brand Ambassadors?

Interview them like you would an employee, ask alot of questions and put your expectations on the table. This person is going to be the face of your company, it's important that you are completely happy with who they are and how they will portray your brand. Reach out to people who are already related to your industry and are already in the public eye, preferably they need to already have their own social following.

And what about tips for someone wanting to be a Brand Ambassador?

Give up now, there is only room for me. Just kidding. Get good at taking photos. Think about how you're going to present yourself to appeal to companies that are looking for social influencers.

What brands do you represent right now?

At the moment I represent Dark Angel Jewellery, Look Sew Good and Banshee Cosmetics.

I have an awesome collaboration with some other wicked alternative brands coming up in December so stay tuned for that too.
